Your guide to staying safe, prepared, and supported

As the end of term approaches and spring break gets closer, we know many of you are getting ready either to head home, travel to new locations, or enjoy a quieter campus over the next few weeks. Whatever your plans, here's your go-to guide to make sure you're prepared and supported.

We're here for you, all break long

No matter where you'll be spending the spring break, support is always just a message or call away. The Student Hub is available 24/7, 365 days a year.

You can:

  • Chat live with an advisor via the online chat
  • Call anytime on 02380 599 599
  • Email whenever you need help

If you haven't already, take a look at the latest updates on SUSSED for information on support, opening hours, and activities happening over the break.

Heading home for the break?

If you're leaving halls for a few days or weeks, please take a moment to get your room and shared spaces ready.

In your room

  • Make sure windows and your door are closed and locked
  • Close curtains (especially on the ground floor)
  • Unplug all electrical appliances
  • Check taps are fully turned off and drains are clear
  • Leave your heater on its lowest frost setting

In your kitchen

  • Clear out any perishable food
  • Wash up and put utensils away
  • Take all rubbish to the nearest external mixed-recycling and food-waste bins

Not sure where the bins are? Check your site map on the back of your Halls Guide or on the Halls Life site, or ask your reception. Spare bin bags are available if you need them.

Staying in halls over spring break?

If you're remaining on-site during the break over the closure days (Wednesday 2 April to Tuesday 7 April), here's what to expect:

  • Planon will not be monitored over the closure period. Please report all urgent and emergency maintenance requests to your site reception in person or on 02380 595 777.
  • Continue to report non-urgent requests on Planon and our Maintenance team will attend to your issue after the closure period.
  • Reception areas and common spaces will remain open.
  • Cleaning in shared areas will be slightly reduced over the closure period.

Post and parcels

Post rooms and/or receptions will continue to accept parcels for current residents over spring break. You can check operating hours and find further details about collecting post and parcels on Halls Life.

Catering

The last day of meals in part-catered halls before the spring break will be Friday 20 March. The catering will then recommence on Monday 20 April.

Thinking about a clear out?

Spring break is the perfect time to refresh your space. If you're sorting through belongings, why not donate what you no longer need?

Our halls donation points accept a wide range of items, helping support local communities while reducing waste.

Further support

If you have any questions throughout the break, remember that the Student Hub is always here to help, and your halls receptions will remain open 24/7.

We hope you have a restful and enjoyable spring break wherever you choose to spend it!
