How to stay secure while living in Halls

Posted 2 months ago

You can improve your security whilst in halls by:
  • Always locking your doors and windows when leaving your room (Details on how fob doors work can be found on our "How your halls fob works?" page)
  • Having any valuable possessions marked by the police (UV/Smartwater or similar)
  • Being aware of any of your flatmates’ guests
  • Not wedging or blocking doors open allowing entry to those without keys
  • Not giving others the outdoor code or fob for your block or building entrance
  • Not allowing people to tailgate you into buildings

The University has a full site dedicated to staying safe while at university.

We have on campus security teams and all sites have 24-hour receptions to report any concerns about security or if someone is on site or in a block that you believe is not a resident.

To help keep your bike safe, there are bike sheds which are free to use at Halls- your bike should be secured with a D lock. Guidance on keeping your bike safe can be found on the student safety website and University website.

Mayflower- West Park Road and Commercial Road gates will be locked from 18:00 in the winter evenings and by 20:00 in the summer and then unlocked by 06:00 the following morning. If you require access onto the street or onto the halls site during these times then you will require your fob.
