Revise with others
Studying with others can be an effective way of revising, making it more engaging and help you stay motivated. Remember you aren't confined to studying in your flat or the library, all our halls sites have dedicated study areas and common spaces. Sometimes a change of scenery can help freshen up the mind and keep you performing to your best.
Take study breaks
It's important to study and get your revision done but nobody performs to their best without also taking care of themselves. Study breaks are just as important, and can help maximise your productivity when you are studying.
Make sure to continue to eat healthily, stay active and also take some chill out time. A walk in the fresh air in one of the local parks or just a few hours away from the books exploring the city can provide the energy boost you need when you get back to your desk.
Our resident life assistants have let us know about some of their preferred study breaks to help refresh the batteries.
Online assessments?
Let your flatmates know when you will be in an online exam or assessment, or if revising, so you can be left in peace. We have produced posters which you can put on your door if you wish to make other people aware when you do not wish to be disturbed. These can be collected from your local post room. Alternatively, you can print your own with the below document.
Leave in plenty of time
Make sure to locate your exam room ahead of the day itself, work out your best route to get there and leave plenty of time to get there on the day. The last thing you need is the stress or worry of being late or not knowing where you are going leaving you agitated and worn out before your exam starts.
If walking or cycling, leave plenty of time for your journey, or your Uni link bus pass can provide stress free travel to your exam. Check the Unilink timetable to see which route you need and what time it departs.
Make use of available support
Check out the exams and assessments guide for students, complete with tips and videos so you know what to expect and can arrive at your exam fully prepared.
Exam and assessment periods are your opportunity to showcase your knowledge, but this also means it can be a pressurised time. Remember there is always support available for you, or anyone you have concerns about, from the wellbeing team. They can be contacted 24 hours a day via the Student Hub.
During the exam period in halls Residences team will:
- implement a zero-tolerance approach to noise. If a member of staff deems the noise being made to be excessive, and culprits will need to attend a noise awareness course.
- keep planned maintenance work to a minimum - however, please note that for health & safety reasons certain planned maintenance work will still need to take place
- keep designated study rooms open 24/7 and any dedicated social areas will be open until midnight (excluding designated music rooms which will close earlier).
