The easiest pancakes recipe ever

Posted 1 month ago

Minimal ingredients, zero fancy equipment, and cheap to make

Ingredients (Serves 2-3)

🛒 What you’ll need:

  • 100g plain flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 300ml milk (semi-skimmed or whole)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp oil or melted butter (plus extra for frying)

Optional toppings:

  • Sugar & lemon 🍋
  • Nutella & bananas 🍫🍌
  • Biscoff spread 🟤
  • Honey & yoghurt 🍯
  • Raspberries & blueberries

Method

1️⃣ Make the batter - In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, egg, milk, salt, and oil/butter until smooth. No electric whisk? No problem, just use a fork or balloon whisk and beat until lump-free.

2️⃣ Heat the pan - Place a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and add a small bit of butter or oil to prevent sticking.

3️⃣ Cook your pancakes - Pour a small ladleful of batter into the pan, tilting it to spread the batter evenly into a thin layer. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the edges lift slightly and bubbles form on the surface.

4️⃣ Flip it! - Use a spatula (or attempt a dramatic flip) to turn the pancake over. Cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute until golden brown.

5️⃣ Stack & Serve - Repeat with the rest of the batter, stacking the pancakes as you go. Add your favourite toppings and enjoy!

Student cooking hacks

  • No whisk? Use a fork and mix well.
  • No scales? 100g flour = roughly 7 tbsp.
  • No measuring jug? 300ml milk = a little over 1 standard mug.
  • Leftovers? Stack and store in the fridge for up to 2 days - just reheat in the microwave or pan.
