Guidance on departing your halls of residence

Please take time to read through the following in order to make sure your departure goes as smoothly and as safely as possible:

On departing you must leave your room clean, clear and in the condition you found it:

• Remember to take all belongings with you, including all kitchen equipment and food from the cupboards, fridge and freezer, plus anything left in shared washing facilities.
• Remove all rubbish from your bedroom and kitchen and dispose of accordingly in the relevant waste bin in your bin compounds.
• If you are leaving a flat that is occupied, you can avoid food waste by seeing if those remaining in the flat may want any food that you no longer need.
• Once fully vacated return your key or fob to the key/fob drop off point at your site reception. If you forget to return your key or lose it you can find details on what you need to do on the Halls life site. ​​​​​​​

We always aim to support local charities and we’d appreciate your help. Please donate any unwanted homeware, electricals, soft furnishings or clothing you may have. Our halls information page on charity donations provides full details of where to donate and our charity partners.

Make sure to change your postal address for any deliveries before you leave (e.g. Amazon, eBay etc.) as we won't be able to forward on post that is sent to halls of residences. Any post that arrives for students not currently in halls will be returned to sender or donated to charity/disposed of if this is not possible.

Please observe the following guidelines:​​​​​​​

• ​​​​​​​Give way to people carrying items in stairwells and corridors.
• Dispose of all your rubbish in the nearest bin store outside the building.
• Do not leave items or belongings blocking walkways or stairwells.
• Please pack your items in containers/suitcases etc. as much as possible to reduce the number of journeys between your room and outside.

At sites with lifts:

• Do not overcrowd lifts with belongings, particularly if in use by fellow residents.
• As much as possible use the lift only to bring belongings down.

Trolleys

Trolleys are available at some sites to assist students in moving belongings from their accommodation block. Please feel free to make use of these at sites where available. If you are unsure where to find the trolleys ask at your site reception.
