Hereβs a quick guide to your new neighbourhood.
Green Spaces
πSouthampton Common: this large green space is perfect for picnics, outdoor sports and sunbathing, and is a popular hang out spot for students when the sun is shining.
πDaisy Dip Park: only a 20-minute walk away, this is a large open space between Swaythling and Bassett ideal for picnics by the stream that runs through it.
πItchen Valley Country Park: looking for something bigger? This country park is a 30-minute bus journey away, offering plenty of walking and cycling trails, rivers and woodland to explore.
Glen Eyre halls is surrounded by lots of other greenery, including the Southampton Municipal Golf Course and Lords Wood.

πNew Forest National Park: plan a day out here to see wildlife roaming free from ponies to deer in the beautiful forest landscape. Think stunning glades and cliff-top walks, charming towns and villages and a range of heritage sites β all of this at only a 12-minute drive away!
πBournemouth: an hour away by train and bus, Bournemouth is a great day out whether you want to relax or have some fun and is known for its beautiful beaches. If you're up for travelling another hour from Bournemouth, it's also worth visiting Durdle Door which is another scenic getaway.
πBrighton: another city known for its seaside and beaches, you can get to Brighton in a couple of hours by train. Make sure to take a stroll along the pier, labeled the 'biggest attraction in the South East'!
πThe Isle of Wight: close on the ferry, it is perfect for a sunny day trip. Do not miss historic sites like Osborne House and the Needles.
Restaurants and CafΓ©s
πUni Kebab Turkish Restaurant: head here for authentic, homemade Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine, they also have tasty sharing platters perfect for sharing with flatmates and coursemates.
πMalvern Tavern: a Greene King pub serving all of your favourite classics from dishes to drinks, they also show sports and have a great beer garden.
πRound About Cafe: a friendly spot that is great for meeting friends, reading a book and tucking into some homemade cake β not to mention their signature sausage rolls. They also have a community pantry where you can access food and household goods once a week for just Β£1 a year!
πBaboo Ji Vegetarian Kitchen: although it's a little further away, if you're into plant-based food you're going to love this vegan and veggie restaurant serving up bold Indian flavours.
Entertainment
πTurner Sims: known as one of the finest music venues in the country, located on our very own University of Southampton Highfield Campus β just a 15 minute walk from Glen Eyre.
πEscape room: head closer to the city centre to find Elusion Escape House, Sneaky Dog Escapes and Houdiniβs Escape room, all that offer the perfect activity to participate with a group of friends, finding hidden clues and solving puzzles.
πThe Brook: a live music venue in a beautiful old Victorian building that's been around for over 30 years, promoting thousands of shows on and off site from Bastille to ReneΓ© Rap!
π Hollywood Bowling: Head out with some friends for some healthy competition at West Quay or Eastleigh. There is also great food, drinks, games, and a pool table.
π Karaoke night: Sing the night away at ones of these venues hosting karaoke nights: The Bedford, Medbar, Shanghai 1814, Oasis Bar, The Lion, Boom Battle Bar or The Stags.
