Students, staff and residents travelling on the Unilink U2 route should be aware of a number of important changes coming into effect from 13 September 2026.
The U2 network will operate a new timetable, providing more frequent services, improved journey times between Southampton city centre and Highfield, and later evening buses to help passengers travel more conveniently across the city.
More Frequent Services
The revised network will see buses running as often as every 7 to 15 minutes during peak times, making it easier for passengers to travel between key destinations and reducing waiting times.
Changes to Routes and Services
From September, the U2 network will operate as three separate services:
- U2: City Centre ↔ Highfield
- U2B: City Centre ↔ Highfield ↔ Glen Eyre/Cantell School
- U2C: Bassett Green ↔ Highfield ↔ City Centre
The new network will also introduce a direct link between Bassett Green and Lobelia Road, improving connectivity for local residents and students.
Important Information for Passengers
Not all services will continue beyond Highfield.
If you are travelling to Glen Eyre Residences or Cantell School, you must make sure you board a U2B service, as standard U2 buses will terminate at Highfield.
Passengers travelling from Southampton Central Station should also note an important change to the departure point. U2 services will now start from the Toys R Us (South) side of the station, rather than the Mayflower Halls (North) side.
Route Changes
As part of the network update, the following stops will no longer be served by the U2:
- Burgess Road Library
- Southampton Crematorium
Please allow extra time to plan your journey if you regularly use these stops.
Later Evening Services
The revised timetable will include buses operating later into the evening, providing greater flexibility for those travelling home after studying, working or enjoying Southampton's nightlife.
