Applications for halls accommodation at the University of Southampton are currently open for the current academic year.
Applications for new students for the 2026/27 academic year will open on 20 April. If you are a new student, meet our criteria, and submit your application by 23:59 on Wednesday 1 July, you will be guaranteed an offer of accommodation in a single-occupancy room for 2026/27.

Why choose halls accommodation?
Living in halls at the University of Southampton offers excellent value, with a range of services and benefits included in your accommodation fees.
Your rent covers all utility bills (gas, electricity and water), Wi-Fi and high-speed internet, and use of laundry facilities, including detergent (please note that laundry may not be included in some private halls).
You'll also benefit from 24-hour support, reception services, security and maintenance assistance, as well as access to on-site facilities such as common rooms and communal computers.
Students in University-owned halls in Southampton receive a Unilink bus pass* and can enjoy a September to July contract option, helping to avoid paying rent year-round. Accommodation fees also include **comprehensive contents insurance, which covers bikes in most halls, along with secure bike storage and access to a varied programme of halls events and activities.
* Unilink bus passes are not included for Erasmus Park residents. **Contents insurance is not available for Capital House residents.
Contracts
You’ll sign a contract with us when you accept a room in our halls of residence.
We offer three different contract lengths: 38 week, 41 week or 51 weeks. Some contract lengths are only available for certain rooms or halls. Your contract options will be shown to you when you apply for accommodation.
Our contract dates for 2026-27 are:
38 week - 12 September 2026 to 5 June 2027 (266 days in total)
41 week - Glen Eyre - 10 September 2026 to 24 June 2027 (287 days in total)
41 week - City Gateway and Wessex Lane - 11 September 2025 to 25 June 2027 (287 days in total)
41 week - All other halls - 12 September 2026 to 26 June 2027 (287 days in total)
51 week – 10 September 2026 to 2 September 2027 (357 days in total)
51 week - Orion Point - 12 September 2026 to 4 September 2027 (357 days in total)
Most undergraduates need a 38 or 41 week contract, and most postgraduates need a 51 week contract. You cannot change to a shorter contract after you accept your accommodation offer. You can book summer accommodation with us if you need to stay longer.

Part-catered rooms
If you live in a part-catered room, breakfast and a main meal will be provided on weekdays during term time. Brunch is also provided on Saturdays, and lunch is provided on Sundays.
Part-catering can cater for specific dietary preferences and daily provide a range of gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and halal options.

Paying your fees
You’ll pay for your accommodation in instalments. These are charged at the start of each term.
2026-27 payment dates will be:
- 21 September 2026
- 18 January 2027
- 12 April 2027
- 1 July 2027
Students on Semester 2 contracts will receive their payment dates when they accept their offer.
Included in your fees
Your accommodation fees include:

- Unilink bus pass for University-owned halls in Southampton
- use of laundry (laundry may not be included in some private halls, so please check the appropriate halls page to confirm)
- 24-hour support and services
- 24-hour security
- on-site facilities, including common rooms and communal computers
- contents insurance (this is unavailable for Capital House)
Insurance for your belongings
Your accommodation fees include contents insurance. You can find out what’s included on our insurance provider’s website.
You’ll need to arrange your own insurance for any items not covered by this comprehensive policy.
Please be aware that Orion Point, Southampton Crossings and Lucia Foster Welch may use a different insurance provider than the University.

Student loans can include a tuition fee loan and a maintenance loan to help you pay for university accommodation and your living costs.
