Expectations on student behaviour

Within your University accommodation there are a few important things to be aware of which set out expectations of conduct and behaviour of our students.

Halls of Residence Regulations

The hall regulations are set out as part of your contract, and establish rules and a code of conduct for you and all the other students living in University accommodation. It also lets you know what you can expect from the Residences team.

You can find a copy of the regulations at the webpage below:

Top tips for things you need to know:

  • Smoking is not permitted inside any building, and when smoking outside, you should be 5m away from the buildings
  • The smoke detectors within the accommodation play a crucial role in alerting the teams if there is a fire, as such you cannot cover these with any item.
  • All fire equipment is there to save lives, please do not interfere or tamper with fire doors, fire extinguishers, fire call points or any other fire equipment.
  • Illegal substances are not allowed to be stored nor used within any of the University properties.
  • You cant use candles or incense sticks or any other item that has a flame.
  • Remember you must show your ID card to staff when it is a reasonable request by them.
  • As cute as they may be, pets aren't allowed in halls... sorry!
  • Please be a considerable neighbour, be conscious of the noise you make, keeping communal kitchens or bathrooms clean and not taking anyone else's possessions. Ask if you can borrow something, don't just take it.

If you have any questions or queries over the Halls Regulations, email the Student Hub who will be able to assist you.

The Student Charter

The Student Charter is a reference point for our students and staff setting out our expectations, rights and responsibilities as members of the University community.

If you have any concerns over living with others in your flat/block and experience trouble with noise or nuisance neighbours, the Residences Life Cycle team can help. Email or call the Student Hub 24 hours per day, who can put you in touch with the team. They can talk through your concerns and if needed, hold a flat meeting to help facilitate productive conversations between all members of the flat.

All these rules and regulations are in place to make sure you are safe whilst living in University accommodation, and also that you are a good neighbour to those that live around you!
