How does contents insurance cover work in halls?

Everybody living in halls benefits from having the comprehensive contents insurance cover that we provide via Gallagher insurance. The cover is part of your halls contract and automatically in place, no need to register.

You can find out details about the content insurance policy, such as the policy number, what is and isn't covered and how to make a claim, on the Hub, the Gallagher insurances customer portal.

To access the Hub simply enter your email address on the University of Southampton page on the Gallagher website and you will be taken to The Hub.

• Your policy number.
• Details of the cover provided and limits of the cover.
• Details of what's not covered by the policy.
• Information of Gallaghers partner, Arma Karma, and additional cover that can be purchased for items not covered in your contents insurance policy. You can also enter Arma Karma's monthly giveaway competition.
• QR codes and links if you wish to add the cover documents to your digital wallet.
• Links to student related blog posts.
• Frequently asked questions.

Please take the time to look over your policy and make note of what is and isn’t included in your cover. 

If you discover that certain possessions are not covered by this policy, or you wish to cover items you take away from halls or abroad, such as phones and laptops you can add cover additional items via Gallaghers partner, Arma Karma, for an additional cost.

You can also improve your security whilst in halls by doing the following:

• Always lock your door and windows when leaving your room.
• Have any valuable possessions marked by the police (UV/Smartwater or similar).
• Be aware of any of your flatmates’ guests.
• Do not wedge or block doors open allowing entry to those without keys.
• Do not give out door codes to your block or building to others.

Making a claim

If you need to make a claim you can do so via Gallagher insurances Hub and clicking on the "Make a claim" button where you'll be directed to an online form to fill in and make a claim. Alternatively you can call 0343 227 7291. 

For a liability claim (a formal request for compensation made when it is believed another party causes damage or harm) you should call 0343 227 7293.
