Room transfers and room swaps

It is possible to apply for a room transfer or swap in halls

Room Transfer

The room transfer process for 2026/27 will open on Monday 2 November 2026. Room transfers can be requested via an online form, which once completed, will add you to the waiting list. 

Please note completing the online form does not guarantee we will be able to offer you an alternative room to move to. Room transfer options depend on the availability of rooms at a given time and currently in University of Southampton halls we have very limited availability. We expect that for the majority of room transfer requests submitted this year we will not be able to make an offer to. If we are unable to make you a suitable offer, you will be informed of this. Please do not submit a further  transfer request if this is the case.

If we have individuals who submit requests which potentially may lend themselves to a swap we may facilitate an exchange of rooms on a specified date in conjunction with both parties.

In relation to room transfer requests we will prioritise, where possible, any requests where there is a medical need or in instances where financial concerns may be a factor.

Room Swaps

If you find another halls resident that you wish to swap rooms with it is also possible to arrange a swap through the Accommodation Services team. In order to do so, both parties need to complete the form, confirming that they wish to swap and which student they wish to swap with (including student ID number). Our Accommodation Services team will then review the request to assess the suitability of the swap (e.g. not allowing a female to swap out of a female only flat with a male) and if permissable will then contact both parties to facilitate the move.
