Private Rented Accommodation
There are many accommodation options in the private halls within the city of Southampton. To support you in finding suitable accommodation, we recommend exploring the following resources.
Private Halls
On the SASSH website you can find listings of ANUK accredited Private Halls providers within Southampton. ANUK is the Accreditation Network UK and those with accreditation provide student accommodation that meet a number of clear benchmark standards. Full details of the criteria can be found in the National Code standards.
Online accommodation resources
To help you decide on where to look you can find student reviews of private halls within Southampton and Winchester on Student Crowd. Reviews are current students who have lived in accommodation from providers within the city.
Student Housing/Houses of multiple occupancy
We recommend students look for private accommodation on the SASSH website. This is the best way to find good quality private accommodation in Southampton. Landlords who list properties on SASSH agree to:
-A set of property standards to ensure that students live in good quality homes
-A code of management and practice
-Provide a full set of safety certificates for the property
This scheme is run in partnership by the University of Southampton, Southampton Solent University and Southampton City Council. You can find an overview of SASSH on the Halls Life website.
You can find further details on the Renters' Right Act, and your rights, on our " Understanding the Renters' Rights Act 2025" article.
