Students come together in a weekend of University spirit

The University of Southampton has once again been crowned Varsity champion after a thrilling and closely fought weekend of sport against the University of Portsmouth.

With a final score of Southampton 176 - Portsmouth 160, this year's competition proved to be one of the tightest Varsity matchups yet, making the victory even more satisfying for UoS.

The Varsity campaign got underway on 6 May, with early fixtures in Rugby, Futsal, and Darts setting the tone and building momentum ahead of the main weekend. Confidence continued to grow as Southampton students delivered strong performances across the board.

The main Varsity weekend took place on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May, with Portsmouth hosting an impressive programme of fixtures. Students competed across a huge range of sports, including Basketball, Climbing, Dodgeball, Lacrosse, Swimming, Sailing, and Water Polo; showcasing not only athletic ability but also incredible teamwork, commitment, and University spirit.

As Sunday drew to a close, it became clear that Southampton was on course for yet another Varsity victory. By late afternoon, celebrations were already underway as the title was secured once again.

A huge well done to all the students who competed, supported from the side lines, and represented the University with pride throughout the week. Special thanks also go to our colleagues at SUSU for delivering a fantastic Varsity event.

With this year's success secured, attention now turns to Varsity 2027, when the University of Southampton will host Portsmouth once again. We're hoping for an even bigger and better event next year.

Congratulations to everyone involved in another memorable varsity win!
