How to recycle in halls

Posted 1 month ago

Its easy to do your part ♻️

All you need to know are the basics of recycling - what can be recycled, how to recycle, and where... this article will cover all of that!

What can be recycled?

Instead of just chucking everything into general waste, spend the extra 30 seconds to determine what can actually be recycled and reused. Most products/items will be clearly labelled whether they can be recycled -  you just have to look for the symbol ♻️. Some items may also only be recycled in part but again, it should state this on the product or packaging. If you're still unsure, we have a comprehensive list that goes through the whole A-Z of waste and recycling.

How should I recycle?

You'll find a lot of bins in halls and on campus are "mixed recycling" which basically means multiple types of recyclable items can be put into them. Easily job for you BUT it's crucial to ensure that only clean and dry waste is placed in the mixed recycling bins. Please rinse any food packaging before recycling because if it's contaminated by food or liquid, the entire batch is rejected and sent for incineration (not ideal).

Where can I recycle?

It's all about finding the right bin, which in your halls you find the essential ones on site (general waste, green, etc). Ask your reception if any specialised bins are on site (batteries, clothes, etc). Download our bin guide below:
