Doing laundry doesn't have to be a chore! Our washers and dryers are free to use for all halls residents, and the machines even auto-dose detergent for you... so there's no need to bring your own.
To keep things running smoothly for everyone, here are a few quick tips to make the most of your laundry experience.
Check your pockets
Before you load up, take a moment to empty your pockets. Items like hair clips, tissues, coins, keys, and pens can cause blockages or damage to the machines.
Our laundry machine provider, Washco, has reported these as the common culprits behind breakdowns, putting washing machines and dryers out of order.
Don't overstuff
Cramming in too much means your clothes won't wash or dry properly, and puts extra strain on the machines. A good rule: the drum should be loosely filled so clothes can move around.
Let the machines do the work
Our washers auto-dose detergent for free, so you don't need to add anything extra. Just pick the right cycle for your fabrics and you're good to go.
Most clothes can be washed at 30 degrees, so perhaps consider a shorter and cooler cycle to help improve our environmental impact.
Sort smart
Separate colours and check care labels to avoid surprises, like colour runs or shrinking.
Collect your clothes promptly
We've all been in that situation where we want to do laundry but all of the machines are full. When your cycle finishes, make sure you grab your laundry straight away. It keeps your clothes fresh and frees up machines for others.
Following these tips helps prevent breakdowns and keeps machines available for everyone. A little care goes a long way toward hassle-free laundry!
