You’ve already brought all of your essential belongings to Southampton, and now you need to pack everything up to leave your halls accommodation before the summer break.
Whether you’re leaving the city until September, waiting a few weeks before the start of your next contract, or just need an extra pair of hands to help you move to your new home, there are a host of storage solutions and moving services available to help make your transition out of halls that much smoother.
Many storage companies offer big discounts if you store for three months, so it’s worth taking a look as soon as possible.
Storage and shipping services
Door-to-door storage and relocation services are great options for students, especially if you’re looking to store your belongings for a few months over the summer. Costs start at less than £1 per item per week, with some services even accepting musical instruments as well as boxes and suitcases.
Most door-to-door storage companies will collect your belongings from your halls of residence, store them securely in one of their facilities, then deliver them back to you. You only pay for what you store and you can manage everything online: from booking your collection and keeping track of what’s in storage, to extending your storage booking and requesting your stuff back.
Make sure you research the options that are available to find the best fit for you. Some companies offer free boxes and packing tape on their storage services, saving you a chunk of money this summer. Other companies provide full relocation services, delivering your boxes to your new address at no extra cost.
Self storage
If you’d rather handle your boxes and storage yourself, then there are a few self storage options available in and around Southampton. If you opt for self storage, you will be allocated an individually locked unit where you can access your belongings during access hours. You will be able to unload your items and organise your belongings within your unit in whatever way works for you. This is a great choice if you still need to access your items throughout the summer.
