The safety and experience of our students is our top priority. As part of our ongoing building safety programme, we have recently discovered a need to carry out a programme of remedial works. While the building remains safe to occupy, we have decided that closing the hall completely means the necessary work can be undertaken without causing disruption to our residents. We are therefore conducting a phased closure between now and 17th July 2026 and supporting all residents to secure alternative accommodation or if preferred, end their accommodation contract early.
Mayflower halls will not be an available option for accommodation for the foreseeable future.
If you currently hold a contract for accommodation at Mayflower for the 2026/27 academic year, there is no need to contact us at this stage. We will review your booking and, where necessary, provide an alternative accommodation offer in due course. We will contact you directly with further information as soon as it becomes available.
For your current 2025/26 accommodation contract, alternative accommodation options are available, and we will support you in identifying the most suitable option for your circumstances. To do this please fill in this Microsoft form by 5pm on Thursday 9 July.
Where possible we will relocate you with your flatmates. You will need to choose the same alternative accommodation preference to your flatmates. This will be done to the limit of supply in the alternative accommodation locations.
All students have a bus pass included in their halls package and will still be able to use this to travel.
Any difference in price between your current room and new room sourced by us will be refunded. If you move to more expensive accommodation you will continue to be charged the same rate as your current Mayflower room.
Any credits will be raised against your student account, if there are no outstanding payments on your account this will be refunded to you. Refunds will be sent to your registered bank details. If you wish to check your registered banks details and/or update them, you can do so on Banner Self Service. If you move to more expensive accommodation you will continue to be charged the same rate as your current Mayflower room.
The window for moving to your new accommodation is between Sunday 12 July and Friday 17 July. If you are unable to move during this timeframe, please contact accommodation@soton.ac.uk or studenthub@soton.ac.uk.
Yes, we can release you from your current halls contract for you to find private accommodation. Please fill in this form to confirm your choice: Closure of Mayflower Halls Accommodation Form – Fill out form.
If you are early released you will be re-imbursed for any accommodation dates you have already paid for but are not occupying your room. Any dates from when you vacate your room and return your fob to Mayflower reception to the end of your contract would be refunded.
If you have outstanding halls fees, a credit will be raised against the dates after you vacate your room.
The SUSU Advice centre can offer advice and guidance including finding accommodation using the SASSH scheme. The Advice Centre - SUSU.
You will receive a £100 to support you in your move which will be credited to your account. Refunds will be sent to your registered bank details. If you wish to check your registered banks details and/or update them, you can do so on Banner Self Service.
The Residences Team will be available to help students move where possible. Students should contact Mayflower Reception on 02380 595777, option 6 if they need assistance.
If you still have belongings at Mayflower, you will need to ensure these are retrieved and removed by 5pm on Friday 17 July. You must not leave any items behind. To do this, please report to Mayflower Reception with a form of identification so you can be issued with a temporary fob to access your room.
If you are not in Southampton and unable to return by this date, please fill in the Closure of Mayflower Halls Accommodation Form – Fill out form to advise us when you will be returning. Access will then be arranged for you to pack and collect your belongings.
Lifts within Mayflower A block may not be available for use at this time, so please allow extra time for moving your belongings.
If required, we can support you via our special consideration process.
