What is the Building Safety Act?

Posted 4 weeks ago

And what does it mean for me?

What is it?

The Building Safety Act of 2022 is recent legislation which regulates higher risk buildings. Across all our halls, we have two sites that are classed as higher risk, simply because of how tall they are. These are Mayflower Halls and City Gateway.

As part of the Building Safety Act, we have to have a Residents Engagement Strategy. This sets out how we will communicate all building and safety information and decisions, and it applies to everyone, not only those living at Mayflower and City Gateway.

Please find our Strategy below.

There is already a lot of fire safety information hosted on the Halls Life pages:

But in addition to this, we have created a Fire Safety Handbook to make sure you know everything there is to know about keeping safe.

If you have any questions at all, do contact us by email at the studenthub@soton.ac.uk
