With this quick guide, you can find out exactly what your room number means in halls of residence
What does my room number mean?
Glen Eyre
HIL — Hillside House
Ground, first, second and third floors, numbered 1-4. Four flats per floor. Room numbers have 3 digits: Floor, flat and room number. Room 111 is ground floor, flat 1, room 1. Room 427 is 3rd floor, flat 2, room 7.
CHN — Chancellors' Courts
Three blocks: Roll, Selborne and Jellicoe. Ground, first, second and third floors, numbered 1-4. 9 flats per floor. Room numbers have one letter and 3 digits: block letter, floor, flat and room number. Room R111 is Roll, ground floor, flat 1, room 1. Room J496 is Jellicoe, third floor, flat 9, room 6.
CMB — Chamberlain
Five blocks A-E. Ground, first, second and third floors, numbered 1-4. Two or three flats per floor. In the room number, the first letter is the block, then the floor and room numbers, then the flat letter. Room D1001A is block D, ground floor, room 001, in flat A. Room C4010C is block B, third floor, room 010 in flat B.
HGV — Hartley Grove
Three blocks: Ash Court, Beech Court and Cedar Court. Ground, first, second and third floors, numbered 1-4. Room numbers have 3 digits: Floor, flat and room number. Room A111 is Ash Court, ground floor, flat 1, room 1. Room C436 is Cedar Court, 3rd floor, flat 3 room 6.
RNC — Richard Newitt
Nine blocks: A-H and W. Ground, first and second floors, numbered 1-3. Room numbers have 3 digits: floor and room number. Floors are divided into flats of 4-5 rooms. Room A101 is the ground floor of block A. Room H207 is the first floor of block H.
SHL — South Hill
Three blocks: A-C. Ground, first and second floors, numbered 0, 1 and 2. Room numbers have 3 digits. First digit is floor number, second identifies the flat and third is room number. SHL-A015 is block A, ground floor, second flat, room 5. Room C223 is block C, second floor, second flat, room 3.
TER — New Terrace
Four blocks: Q-T. Ground floor, first and second floors, numbered 1, 2 and 3. Room numbers have one letter and 3 digits. The letter denotes the block, first digit is the floor number. Second digit is the flat number, third digit is room number. Two flats per floor, 6 rooms per flat. Room 435 is R block, third floor, flat 3, room 5.
TCE — Old Terrace
A row of blocks, A-K, like terraced houses. Ground, first and second floors with 10 rooms per block. Numbers are sequential through all the blocks, so block B starts with room number 11 instead of room 1. Room numbers include the floor so TCE-B17-2ND is Old Terrace, Block B, room 17 on the 2nd floor.
JBL — J Block
One block, divided into A and B flats, over three floors numbered 1-4. Room numbers have 4 numbers and a letter. First number denotes the floor, the next 3 denote the room number, and the final letter is the flat. Room 4009A is third floor, room 9, flat A. As the building is on a slope, most of the rooms on floor 1 are actually upstairs, with Glen Eyre reception on the ground floor.
GLEN-MB — Main Building
Two flats across two floors; both above ground level. Room numbers have three digits. First digit denotes 1st or 2nd floor, remaining digits denote room number. Room 107 is room 7 on the first floor. Room 201 is room 1 on the second floor.
Wessex Lane
MO1 — Blocks A and B
Ground, first, second, third and fourth floors, numbered from 1-4. Two flats per floor, A and B. Room numbers have letter for the block, number for the floor and letter for the flat, then three digits for the room number. A1A/003 is block A, ground floor, flat A, room 3. B4A/010 is block B, third floor, flat A, room 10.
MO2 — Blocks C, D, F, G, and H
Ground, first, second and third floors, with three flats per floor. Flats are numbered consecutively from ground floor of C block to top floor of H block. Room numbers have two digits denoting the flat number, and a letter denoting the room. C01G is room G in flat 1, in C block. F32B is room B in flat 32 in F block (which is on the second floor). H60E is room E in flat 60 in H block (which is on the third floor).
MO3 — Blocks E, and J-T
Ground, first, second and third floors, numbered 1-4. Two flats per floor, numbered consecutively from bottom to top (1-8). Seven ensuite rooms per flat, except flat 1 which has 5 ensuites and one studio. Room numbers have 3 digits: Floor, flat and room number. Room E145 is block E, ground floor, flat 1, room 5. Room S476 is third floor, flat 7, room 6. Any room numbered 127 is a studio.
MO4 — Blocks V-X
Ground, first, second and third floors, numbered 1-4. Two flats per floor, numbered consecutively from bottom to top (1-8). Seven ensuite rooms per flat, room numbers have 3 digits: Floor, flat and room number. Room X145 is block X, ground floor, flat 1, room 5. Room W476 is third floor, flat 7, room 6 in block W.
Mayflower
Three blocks, A B and C. Floors are numbered from ground floor (01) up. Flats are designated by a letter from A-E. MFB-01010 is block A, level 1, room 10. This is a studio so doesn’t have a flat number. MFC-09007B is room 7 in flat B, on level 9 of block C. MFA-04010D is block A, level 4, room 10 in flat D.
City Gateway
Four blocks, A B, C and D. Floors are numbered from ground floor (01) up. Flats are designated by a letter from A-C. GWA-5003A is block A, level 5, room 3. MFC-09007B is room 7 in flat B, on level 9 of block C. MFA-04010D is block A, level 4, room 10 in flat D.
Highfield Hall
AUB — Aubrey House
Larger of the two blocks. Ground, first and second floors which are called Bottom, Middle and Top respectively. Floors are majority open plan and divided into three areas – North, Centre and South. Room numbers have two letters and 4 numbers. Letters denote level and area, as do the first two numbers. Final two numbers are the room number. For example, AUB-TN3101-2ND is Top North room 1 on the second floor.
WLF/WHS — Aubrey House
Smaller of the two blocks comprising of ensuite and studio accommodation. Ground, first and second floors. First number of room number denotes which floor the room is on.
Ensuite accommodation is prefixed with WLF, with 9 rooms per flat. For example, WLF-127-1ST is room 127 on the first floor.
Studio accommodation is prefixed with WHS, with 6 rooms per flat. For example, WHS-006-GRD is room 6 on the ground floor.
Archers Road
GAT — Gateley Hall
Ground, first and second floor accommodation with 20 flats in total. Room numbers prefixed by GAT, then flat number, then room number which is sequential throughout the building. For example, GAT-17/218-2ND is Gateley, flat 17, room 218.
ROM — Romero Hall
Ground, first, second and third floor accommodation with 32 flats in total. Room numbers prefixed by ROM, then flat number, then room number which is sequential throughout the building. For example, ROM-3/017-GRD is Romero, flat 3, room 17.
Erasmus Park
Two blocks of terraced houses and flats. numbering 1 to 34 (houses) and 36 to 42 (flats). Houses have 10 occupants, and flats have 6.
Houses 1-18 comprise of ground, first and second floors accommodation.
Houses 19-34 are accessed via an external flight of stairs, comprising of first, second and third floor accommodation.
Flats 36 - 42 are on the ground floor.
Room numbers will be 1-10 in houses and 1-6 in flats.
Room numbers are prefixed by EP, then the house/flat number, then the room. For example, EP-01/07-2ND is House 1, room 7.
