What is an RLA?

Our RLAs will be experienced and confident students who will work on a weekly basis to facilitate events or campaigns in University Halls of Residences or our Nominated Private Halls.

This role involves:

  • Idea generation and planning of weekly events
  • Delivering events without any direct supervision in common spaces in halls
  • Supporting students in Halls from a peer-to-peer perspective
  • Working with Residences and the Student Engagement Team on larger scale Halls events

What is it like being and RLA?

The above points will show you just what a great job this is to have, but if you want to find out more, read on to see a testimony written by one of our current RLAs:

“Working as an RLA in Freshers’ Week and the following weeks was a huge success. Students bonded with each other, really got to know each other and it was so nice to see that it was the events I was helping run that made this happen. Building a relationship with students in the Halls site I worked at really stood out to me. Students would recognise me in the corridors and say hi and it was nice they had a familiar face around campus as well as halls” — Isobel, Senior RLA, 2024/25

How to apply

Simply fill out this short form to apply to join our 2025/26 cohort of RLAs.

Please note that this job does require a weekly commitment during term time (3 hours weekly). Therefore, students are asked only to apply if they are confident they can balance this with their studies throughout the full academic year.
