Guidance on paying your accommodation instalments

When you accept your accommodation contract you will see the total cost of your stay in halls and these will be broken down into instalments. If you have a 38, 41 or 51 week contract these are charged at the start of each term. You can find details of your accommodation fees, including the amounts for each instalment on the accommodation portal.

For 2025/26 instalment fees are:

6 October 2025

7 January 2026

20 April 2026

1 July 2026*

*51 week contracts only

How do I pay my accommodation fees?

On accepting your accommodation offer you will be asked to submit card details to use for payments of your accommodation fees via a recurring card payment (rcp). These card details will be used to pay for the instalments each term on the dates set out with your contract.

If you need to change or update your payment details you can do so via "My Student Record" which can also be found via the Students tab when logged into SUSSED. Full details on how to update your payment/bank details can be found on the Student Hub knowledge base.

Important: If you have a recurring card payment set up, please do not also make a payment separately as it means the payment will be made twice. Any over payment will remain on your student account and may be allocated against any further outstanding fees or upcoming instalments due.

Can I pay by another method?

If you wish to pay using another method you will need to email: studenthub@soton.ac.uk advising that you wish to cancel the automatic recurring card payment (rcp). You can find details on other ways to make payment in the Fees Payment Methods Knowledge Base.

What if I don't pay my accommodation fees on time or the payment fails?

We will attempt to take payment automatically twice – once on the due date of the instalment and again three days later. You will be notified if these payments fail. If you receive a failed notification, check that you have enough money in your account to cover the payment. We are not able to advise on the reason for a failed payment.

If you don't pay your accommodation instalment by the given date you will receive reminder emails with information on how to make payment for a number of weeks until payment is made.

What if I am unable to pay my accommodation instalment?

If you do not have the funds available to make payment for your accommodation instalment do not panic. If you have concerns about paying accommodation fees, or any other financial matters, please reach out to support services available to you at the Student Hub

Additionally you may also wish to reach out to the Students' Union Advice Centre.
