Get to know each other more with these activities
From low-effort quality nights in to adventurous days out, here are some fun things to do to start getting to know your flatmates:
- Flat dinner: Get your flatmates together to cook a meal, play games, and socialise. If you are less confident in your cooking, there are plenty of restaurant discounts available through UNiDAYS and the Cookery School events will be coming back soon, so keep your eye out.
- IKEA trip: It’s great fun to have a walk around the IKEA showrooms and really take in everything they have to offer. You can even have breakfast, lunch, or dinner together, with plenty of discounts available through the IKEA Family Card.
- Go for a walk: Stay local and explore the Southampton Common, Itchen Valley Park or go further afield and explore the New Forest. The New Forest is easily accessible by train, with Ashurst, Beaulieu Road, and Brockenhurst stations dropping you off at the start of stunning walking routes.
- Group study session: Book out a revision room in the Hartley Library together, or pop to a local café, and enjoy study breaks together.
- Try a new society: Going to a new society with flatmates can be a great way to try something new without the fear of not knowing anyone.
- Beach trip: Southampton is in a great location by the sea. Bournemouth beach is easily accessible by train, or Calshot beach by the Bluestar 9 bus from the city centre.
- Quiz night: There are lots of local pubs and restaurants, as well as SUSU-run quiz nights, that you can go to with your flatmates. You could even be creative and host one yourself in your flat. Below are some local places that run quiz nights:
- SUSU The Bridge, Monday
- Trago Lounge, Monday
- Mitre, Wednesday
- Gordon Arms, Thursday
- Scholars Arms, Thursday
