Guide to laundry in halls

Posted 2 months ago

Laundry use is included as standard in your halls contract

Becoming a student means a whole host of new responsibilities, one being laundry!

Below is all you need to know to keep you and your clothes looking fresh and clean.

Where can I do my laundry?

We have laundry rooms located at all of our halls, each laundry room have larger washing machines and dryers which will typically fit a week's worth of washing.

How do I do my laundry?

Washing guide:

1. Load washing machine with your clothes

2. Select Cycle

3. Confirm cycle type

4. Press start

5. Collect your clothes once the cycle had finished

Drying Guide:

1. Clear the lint filter

2. Load the dryer with your damp clothes

3. Select the temperature

4. Select the dry cycle

5. Press start

6. Unload once the cycle has finished and remember to take all of your clothes. There's always one troublesome sock trying to hide in the machine.

How much does it cost?

Laundry usage is included in your accommodation contract, meaning no extra cost when it comes to washing your clothes. Our washing machines include washing detergent and fabric conditioner, so no need to buy detergent either!

If required we have machines that don't include detergent so alternative washing powders can be used.

Checking machine availability

Wash Point have a useful feature on their website and app where you can check how many machines are available so you don’t waste a trip to the launderette.

What detergent is autodosed in the machines?

There are a couple of fact sheets on the detergent and fabric conditioner used in our machines. Please read the factsheets below for further details.

Tips:

  • Avoid over or under filling machines. It's best to put a full load in, but be careful not to overfill the machines
  • Check your clothes labels to know what temperature and how to wash each of your clothes - If in doubt wash at 30 to save any accidental shrinkage's
  • The general rule of thumb is to wash your bedding at least every 2 weeks (there’s nothing better than fresh bedding)
  • Empty your pockets! Make sure to remove tissues, loose change or anything you don't want to be damaged.

When you leave the laundry room, remember to take all your personal belongings. You've done the work of cleaning your clothes, don't then leave them behind!

Whether you’re doing your laundry for the time time or a laundry pro, it can be super simple once you get to grips with it. Just make sure to keep ontop of it so you’re looking and smelling fresh!
