A Supportive Guide for New and Returning Students

As a female fitness ambassador, I understand that stepping into the gym can be intimidating, especially for women and those new to fitness.Whether you're feeling unsure about the gym or just prefer staying active in a more comfortable setting, there are many ways to keep moving and boost your health.

At-Home Workouts

You don't need a gym to stay active! Here are a few things you can do in your room or at home:

  • Bodyweight exercises: Simple moves like squats, lunges, and push-ups can give you a great full-body workout.
  • Trigger point workouts: Use a foam roller or a tennis ball to release muscle tension and improve flexibility.
  • Yoga and stretching: Apps (Try our Technogym app!) or YouTube channels offer easy-to-follow routines for beginners.

Outdoor Activities

If you prefer being outside, consider these ideas:

  • Bike rides: Explore the local parks or safe cycling paths around campus.
  • Walking: Take regular walks around campus or the local community. It’s a great way to clear your mind while staying active.
  • Step challenge: Aim for 8,000-10,000 steps a day to promote general health and well-being. You could even join step challenges with friends or student groups for extra motivation!

Overcoming "Gymtimidation"

Feeling nervous about the gym is completely normal! Here’s how you can ease into it:

  • Start slow: Begin with short visits or off-peak hours when the gym is less crowded.
  • Group classes: If you’re nervous about using equipment, fitness classes can offer a structured and welcoming environment.
  • Buddy up: Having a workout partner can help you feel more confident and accountable.

Remember, the most important thing is finding an activity you enjoy and can stick with. Small steps lead to big results, so don’t be afraid to start where you are!
